Being in the watch repair hobby, I find out that many of the (Brand) tools are very expensive and only just few has economic alternatives and this one is a perfect example in which the original cost almost 10 times. So I decide to tried this one and its works great at least I tried to open Rolex, Omega and Seiko watches and its work great. The tool is well alignment which is very important.I haven't use the original (Bergeon) so I can not made a comparison, but this one in particular works well for me and I recommended.
I had tried a rubber ball and a hand tool with 3 pins to open the backs of my watches but failed with several of the watches whose backs were on very tightly. This made easy work of them, without leaving a mark. All the parts seem well made.I wondered whether at this price (1/10 that of a Swiss-made one) the tool would actually work, but I am honestly quite happy with the quality. Now I can service every watch.
This bench watch case opener is virtually the same as much as 8x more expensive options from well-known watch tool makers. It includes 2 options for holding the watch and 2 options for removing the case back .Options for holding the case are (matching the expensive brand products):- 2 curved plastic holders that fit inside the lugs in multiple sizes (6, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 20 and 22mm)- 4 pins than hold the case in place from outside (used for non-curved cases or lug-widths)Options for removing the case back are (also matching the expensive brand products):- round attachments specific to Rolex case backs- friction-held pins for standard watch case backs (similar to standard hand-held case back removal tools)Although the quality of materials and construction are not close to the more expensive options, it is, for the most part, good enough. The one problem I found was with the friction-held pins for non-Rolex case backs. The pins don't hold well, and one fell out while I was testing. This risks scratching the case back, which is the main benefit of using a bench opener vs. a hand-held opener.Since this happened with I released the wheel before it returned to the released position, the risk can be avoided (I think) by slowly raising the wheel fully before releasing it.For the most part, this generic bench watch case opener is a really good alternative to much more expensive options.
